About:
Samantha Fichter

Having sixteen years teaching experience in schools in the U.S. and Switzerland, I specialize in mathematics and language acquisition. I utilize a variety of effective methods to target individuals' needs and deliver information in a meaningful, relevant, and varied way to foster an appreciation for learning and, more importantly, confidence in themselves and their capabilities.
I grew up in four states in the U.S. and studied Elementary Education and Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Colorado. I began as a 6th grade Ancient history teacher and then as a 5th grade classroom teacher. After a few years, I moved to Switzerland and taught Grade 2 and in Grades 4 and 5 in Lucerne and Basel.
As a result of many wonderful opportunities and continued learning in several different countries around Europe and beyond, I have slowly shifted my focus as an educator to individualized learning. I now have experience teaching small groups and individual students in a variety of subject areas and with a variety of needs in several grade levels. As a tutor, it is rewarding to see the growth a child can make with a bit of extra targeted support!
In summary, I specialize in:
-
Assessment of individual needs
-
Current best practices in mathematics learning
-
Language acquisition
-
Targeted reading & writing skills instruction
-
Effective spelling instruction for long-term retention

About:
Anna Davies

With over 20 years of experience in mathematics education, I have worked across the UK, Portugal, Switzerland, and Nepal, helping students of all abilities develop confidence in maths. I specialise in supporting students with maths anxiety, using tailored strategies to foster a positive learning experience.
After earning a degree in Management and Logistics from Cranfield University, I trained as a Mathematics teacher in Oxford, specialising in students aged 11–18. Over the course of a decade in the UK, I held a variety of leadership roles, including Assistant Principal, Director of Numeracy, Head of Mathematics, and Pastoral Leader.
Having grown up in a military household, I developed a passion for international experiences, which led me to a career in global education. I have taught in international schools across Nepal, Switzerland, and Portugal. In 2022, I returned to Switzerland, where I now work at a small bilingual international school, and focus on personalised 1:1 support for students who need extra time and care to develop their mathematical skills.
I am passionate about helping young adults thrive by deepening their understanding of mathematics and building the confidence to apply mathematical concepts in real-life situations.
Please contact me for Grades 6 - 12.

SF: Samantha Fichter, Solid Foundations
Delta symbol: I have always loved this symbol representing change. I sometimes use it as a reflection tool for myself and students and have had great experiences with it in my classroom!

Solid Foundations: When foundational concepts are understood deeply, children can approach future, complex learning with flexibility and confidence.

Meaningful Learning: When children learn complex concepts in a fun, varied, and meaningful way, they find purpose and enjoyment in learning while gaining a deeper understanding of those concepts.
